Financing a home is an extremely important decision that requires careful planning and attention to all details.  Here's a few tips that I learned from working with home buyers over the years; 1) Avoid dot com lenders. They do a much better job of collecting application fees than they do making actual loans. Some also use appraisers from outside Dallas that are not familiar with the market and could cause problems with your loan. 2) Small or mid-size lenders usually do a much better job than big banks when it comes to mortgages. You want to work with a lender that if necessary you can sit across the desk from you loan officer. 3) Develop a relationship with a lender early, so you know how much house you can really afford. You are also going to need a pre-qualification letter from a lender before you make an offer on any home.

Freddie Mac is a publicly held company designed by Congress to help to increase the supply of funds that mortgage lenders can make available to homebuyers and investors.  This website has step-by-step tutorials on the homebuying process, as well as a lot of useful information!
